I told you there would be trains, and lots more of it! Union Station is an interesting place. A lot of major U.S. cities has one, including every one I visited on this road trip (Denver, Kansas City, St. Louis and Chicago) and all of them are historical reminders of how cross-country travel used to be a hundred years ago. No trains run out of St. Louis Union Station anymore, and the one here in Kansas City was closed and shuttered for some twenty years before Amtrak re-opened its stop here. Currently, Union Station in Kansas City has been the target of urban renewal with stores, restaurants and even a science museum. It hosts other events and exhibits such as this massive model train display in the station's Grand Hall.
